About My Clients
Dr. Karie has a deep understanding of cultural differences, allowing him to work with patients from a diverse background that includes: Laos, Somalia, Liberia, Eretria, Oromo, Ethiopia, and Kenya. Dr. Karie's treatment method is based on individual/family capacity, current life context and cultural background by using holistic, eclectic and strengths-based approaches.
My Background and Approach
Dr. Karie's focus is on bio psychosocial models providing diagnostics impressions that can be utilized to: identify or rule out specific psychological conditions, formulate diagnostic impressions, educate the patient and care providers, guide care and treatment, as well as to facilitate program planning. Dr. Karie works in collaboration with patients, parents, teachers, physicians, and other professionals to formulate a comprehensive evaluation and treatment plan. Dr. Karie utilizes various treatment modalities from contemporary psychotherapy such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CPT), Narrative Exposure Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Psychoeducational and Person-Centered.
Dr. Karie is focused on providing integrative care to refugees and immigrants, emphasis on immigrant/refugee mental health. Dr. Karie approaches treatment services from resiliency factors through a cultural/spiritual, holistic, and strength-based approach tailored toward the client’s needs. Dr. Karie believes that there should not be disparities in health care as whole. Everyone deserves equal access of care and treatment regardless of their background, sexual orientation, race and religion.
